Weird Arrests: True Stories from a Police Officer’s Career

A career as a police officer is full of unexpected moments. Today, we'll dive into the strangest arrests that have been shared with us by former police officers. Here are some of the most unusual and surprising incidents that occurred in real life.

The Most Strangest Incident: A Family Tragedy

As a police officer, there were many noteworthy and unusual incidents that I witnessed, but one of the strangest had to do with a family shooting incident that involved three siblings. It was a cold and unexpected night when an 18-year-old shot his 14-year-old brother in the stomach. Unfortunately, the bullet traveled, hitting a 12-year-old sister in the abdomen. After providing medical assistance and waiting for an ambulance, I started to handle the situation. The zipper on my uniform pants popped open, causing them to flap in the wind as I led the shooter to the jail. Fearing he might lose more blood on the way, I had to call his wife to bring another pair of trousers.

Legally Crazy: Utilizing Government Equipment for Personal Gain

Another one of the really weird incidents involved a man caught burglarizing a federal government building. He had a rather peculiar argument, suggesting that he would use a federal Xerox machine to make copies of his political statement because using government paper would force the government to endorse his position. The case got even more bizarre; the man ended up in the hospital instead of jail, receiving medical treatment.

A Strange Night Outdoors: An Unconventional Bathroom Ritual

One of the more amusing incidents I have encountered occurred during a patrol in the middle of the night. It was a chilly, snow-covered park where I observed four individuals—two men and two women—engaging in an unusual activity. One man was lying on the ground with the two women, who were also on the ground, facing each other. Intriguingly, they were urinating in unison, their streams matching perfectly. This was happening in freezing temperatures, and they were completely naked in the snow. They were suffering from hypothermia. I calmly told them to put on their clothes and get into the patrol car. To my surprise, they obeyed every instruction. It was an incident I still find extraordinary!

My Father's Commanding Deed: The Witchdoctor Incident

Strangeness doesn’t always come from the streets; sometimes, it finds you in a location far from home. This story involves my father, who was also the commanding officer. In 1961, he received a call in the middle of the night about a suspicious incident at the cemetery in Fort Johnston, Nyasaland. An nganga (witchdoctor) was spotted digging up a fresh grave and setting up a fire. The body of a recently deceased child had been desecrated, and the witchdoctor was arrested for preparing 'muti' (traditional medicine) from the child's remains.

These stories highlight the unpredictability and variety of experiences that police officers encounter in their careers. Though some may seem humorous, it's important to remember the serious nature of these incidents and the dedication and bravery of those who serve.
