Upgrade Windows 8.1 Single Language SL to Windows 10 Professional for Free
Upgrade Windows 8.1 Single Language SL to Windows 10 Professional for Free
Upgrading from Windows 8.1 Single Language (SL) to Windows 10 Professional can be challenging, as Microsoft usually requires a valid license for the upgraded edition. However, here are the steps you can take to attempt the upgrade for free.
1. Check Eligibility for Free Upgrade
Micorsoft initially offered free upgrades from Windows 7 and 8.1 to Windows 10 but the program officially ended in 2016. Many users have reported success with the upgrade despite the end of the official program. Ensure your current setup meets the requirements and that the free upgrade is still possible.
2. Backup Your Data
Before you start, make sure to back up all important files and data. This process can result in data loss, so it is crucial to have a safeguard in place.
3. Use the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool
Download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool from the Microsoft website. Run the tool and follow these steps:
Select Upgrade this PC now. Follow the prompts until you reach the Choose which type of installation you want screen. Select Keep personal files and apps. Enter a Windows 10 Pro product key if prompted. If you have a legitimate Windows 10 Pro key from a previous purchase or upgrade, you can enter it here. If not, you will need to purchase one to fully activate Windows 10 Pro.4. Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro if Necessary
If you manage to install Windows 10 Home, you can upgrade to Windows 10 Pro within the operating system:
Go to Settings. Select Update Security. Click on Activation. Click on Go to the Store to purchase the upgrade to Windows 10 Pro. If you have a valid product key, select Change product key and enter it here.5. Check Activation Status
After the installation, ensure that Windows 10 Pro is activated by checking Settings Update Security Activation.
Note: If you cannot upgrade for free and do not have a valid Pro key, you may need to purchase a license for Windows 10 Pro.
Remember always to ensure that your device meets the hardware requirements for Windows 10.
