Therefore, the first radio signals broadcast to the general public in Massachusetts in December 1906, or 114.5 years ago, have now travelled approximately 687 trillion miles from Earth. This distance corresponds to about 92 light-years in deep space, demonstrating the vastness of radio signal travel.

The first purposeful transmission into space with the intention of contacting alien life occurred on November 16, 1974, when the Arecibo radio antenna in Puerto Rico beamed a message outward. This transmission, known as the Arecibo Message, represents one of the most significant milestones in the history of space communication. By now, these radio waves have travelled an impressive 273 trillion miles, or about 45.5 light-years from their origin.
