Am I right in thinking that breatharians consume very little, if any, food at all? My knowledge is limited, and I’m not certain about the frequency. Maybe it seems logical, but in our stress-filled and culturally influenced world, maybe it’s more about stress and addiction than actual hunger cues.
Do Breatharians Really Need to Eat?
There’s a simple experiment you could try. For just a couple of weeks, breathe and don’t eat. You’ll soon realize that breathing alone cannot sustain your life. If it were that easy, there wouldn’t be any hungry children in the world.
What if we could build an artificial lung that converts air pollutants into sugars and fats? While this might sound futuristic, we are not there yet. For now, and perhaps the foreseeable future, we will continue to rely on food to survive.
Why Do We Need to Eat?
Believe it or not, humans truly need to eat to survive. Millions of people have died due to starvation, proving that food is essential for energy and survival. But it's not just about energy; we also need a balanced diet to obtain all essential macronutrients and micronutrients that our bodies require to stay healthy.
Take, for instance, Vitamin D3. Our bodies can produce this vitamin through exposure to sunlight. However, our bodies still need nutrition from food to create the precursor molecules necessary for Vitamin D3 synthesis.
Are Breatharians Fraud or Foolish?
Breatharianism is a pseudoscience, and calling it so might be too kind. Terms like fraud or delusion better capture the essence of breatharian practices. Many gurus and practitioners of breatharian techniques claim to get energy directly from the universe, but the vast majority are either misguided or outright fraudsters. Verified, controlled studies by reputable organizations have yet to substantiate any claims made by breatharians.
Surviving on Minimal Rations
While it is possible for some individuals to survive on very small quantities of food, such as a bowl of soup per day, their survival is not due to energy being absorbed from the universe.
