As I sat in a session with my therapist, a profound truth resonated within me. She asserted that our society has replaced true thinking with adherence to love, as prescribed by religion. With religion in our lives, we are fostering a culture of ignorance and intellectual laziness. The responsibility to rectify this imbalance lies in the hands of contemporary thinkers and philosophers who can create a system that warmly welcomes and respects differing methods of learning and education.

Adversity in Educational Systems

Society, through its educational systems, is indeed to blame for the current state of affairs. Our conventional educational frameworks are often rigid and inflexible, failing to acknowledge diverse learning styles and methods. The traditional model, which primarily involves prolonged lectures and classroom settings, may cater to a portion of learners, but it clearly neglects the vast variety in how individuals acquire knowledge and skills.

For instance, as I express my personal journey, I have come to understand that my learning process is fundamentally different. While I excel in self-directed learning, particularly in holistic and imaginative domains such as aromatherapy, traditional educational settings often feel burdensome and unengaging. The rigid structure and constant deadlines force a mode of learning that is not naturally intuitive for me. Thus, it is imperative to develop a more inclusive educational system that recognizes and nurtures individual learning styles.

Portable Learning and the Importance of Autonomy

My experience with aromatherapy class is a perfect example of how autonomous and flexible learning can be more effective. The class has no deadlines and allows me to engage with the content at my leisure. I often immerse myself in the knowledge while lounging in nature, surrounded by the calming ambiance of a hot tub and my favorite music. This method of learning allows me to deeply internalize the information and connect it with my personal experiences and emotions.

Moreover, traditional education has too often forced people to engage in learning pathways that do not align with their natural predispositions. This forced engagement can lead to frustration, disengagement, and ultimately, a failure to achieve the desired outcomes. Forcing someone to learn something they are unenthusiastic about can not only set them up for failure but also consume mental resources that could be better allocated to other, more meaningful pursuits. This is why I harbor a deep resentment towards many teachers and professors who limit learning opportunities to rigid, one-size-fits-all methods.

Development of Universal Learning Platforms

The quest for an educational system that accommodates all learners is urgent. It is essential to develop a system that allows individuals to learn in ways that suit them best. This approach would not only enhance engagement but also foster a more inclusive and effective learning environment. By embracing diverse methods of learning, we can empower students to achieve success on their own terms.

While traditional education has its benefits for certain fields, such as clinical careers, there should be more options for learners to explore different methods that enhance their learning experiences. For example, online courses, self-paced modules, and mentorship programs can provide learners with the flexibility they need to thrive.

The Role of Thinkers and Philosophers in Reform

The responsibility to reform our educational system lies with contemporary thinkers and philosophers. They must work towards creating a system that is warm, welcoming, and respectful of different learning styles. This includes recognizing the importance of self-directed learning, experiential learning, and personalized educational paths. By promoting these values, we can ensure that all individuals are given the tools and support they need to succeed.

Ultimately, the transformative power of education lies in its ability to shape our minds and broaden our perspectives. By fostering a culture that embraces diverse learning styles, we can create a society that thrives on knowledge, critical thinking, and creativity.
