Review of TVS Wego 2013: Pros, Cons, and Performance Analysis

As a seasoned user of the second-hand TVS Wego 2013 for the past two months, I have come to appreciate the scooter’s strengths while also highlighting some areas that could be improved. This article aims to provide an unbiased review of the TVS Wego, focusing on its pros and cons, as well as its performance in various scenarios.

Pros of TVS Wego 2013

Handling and Stability: The TVS Wego handles like a dream. It is much easier to maneuver around tight spaces compared to other scooters. The bike exhibits remarkable stability and balance during rides, which is a significant advantage for urban environments. When compared to popular alternatives like the Honda Activa and Aviator, the Wego stands out with its superior stability.

Wheels and Suspension: Both the wheels are equipped with 12-inch alloys, ensuring smooth rides over bumpy roads. The telescopic front suspension system aids in navigating potholes, making the scooter reliable on Indian roads. This feature ensures a smoother ride and enhances safety.

Fuel Tank Access: Accessing the fuel tank is hassle-free. Instead of getting off the scooter, you can reach the fuel tank from behind the seat, which is both convenient and practical. There's no need to open the trunk, making it a significant benefit for city-dwellers who frequently load and unload the scooter.

Build Quality: TVS has maintained high standards in build quality without compromising on aesthetics or durability. Unlike Yamaha Fascino, which uses excessive plastic and fiber, the Wego has a more robust and durable design. This reflects in its overall longevity and reliability.

Headlights and Tyres: The Wego offers generous headlights, providing adequate visibility at night. Although the intensity is moderate, it is sufficient for most urban rides. The stock tires offer decent grip due to the appropriate wheelbase and radius, ensuring a comfortable and steady ride.

Kick Lever Position: The kick lever is ergonomically positioned, allowing the rider to kick-start the scooter while comfortably seated. This is a practical feature that enhances user convenience.

Cons of TVS Wego 2013

Brakes: One of the significant drawbacks of the TVS Wego is its braking system. The brakes often become loose and require frequent tightening. Their effectiveness is also questionable, especially when there is a pillion rider. This can be a safety concern during rides.

Acceleration: The lower RPM range of the Wego is quite laggy, providing minimal torque. However, the mid and high ranges offer impressive power. You'll notice a significant power kick-in just above 30 km/h. When a pillion rider is present, you'll need to provide maximum acceleration to get off the mark.

Instrument Cluster: Although the instrument cluster is functional, it lacks the visual appeal and advanced features found in newer models. Considering the price range, it's an average feature set. Modern upgrades would significantly enhance the user experience.

Fuel Tank Capacity: The fuel tank capacity is unexpectedly small; the needle touches the ‘F’ mark after just 2.5 liters, which is considerably low. This means that frequent refilling is required, making long-distance rides or city commutes more challenging.

The Verdict

As of February 2019, the price of the TVS Wego was around 60,000 Rs. Overall, I feel that it is a well-balanced scooter. The fuel efficiency is commendable, with an average of 40-45 kmpl in the city. No major issues have emerged during my usage, and I have achieved a top speed of 87 km/h on the highway.

While the engine could be more refined, the Wego excels in handling and grip, justifying its position in the market. Other options might include the newer TVS Ntorq, which provides a slightly more refined riding experience but may come at a higher cost.
