A profoundly haunting experience led me to question the justice system's integrity. At the age of 20, I was wrongfully accused of assaulting my parents and detained for 11 years. The California Sheriff's Department was the silent antagonist in this sordid affair. My then brother-in-law, a new recruit, mocked his colleagues for recognizing my case, and I was forced to endure the injustice.

Despite having a clear understanding that the law was misused against me, I lacked the legal and social support needed to challenge my circumstances. However, as I matured to 54, the world's perspective on justice evolved, and now, there are measures in place to support victims of wrongful accusations.

The media has highlighted numerous cases where individuals seek justice decades after their abuse. Yet, my story remains untold and unjustly neglected. The notion that victims of trafficking and abuse are now receiving their due recognition and compensation is poignant. But what about those like me, the anonymous individuals seeking the same form of redress?

A Love Story Unfolding

My first love story was a delicate dance of emotions. A spontaneous conversation turned into a crescendo of feelings. One night, my best friend asked me, 'Do I mean a lot to you?' Under the weight of such a pivotal question, the thought of sharing his feelings with me made my heart race. I responded by acknowledging him as my best friend and expressing my affection. However, the narrative only unfolds if we take the step further to reveal the unresolved emotions.

Instagram and the Lost Hours

Engrossed in social media, I find myself scrolling endlessly, losing track of time. For three years now, I have been dedicated to Instagram, dreaming of creating content that would bring attention and perhaps, financial benefits. Yet, the cycle of scrolling and failing to create meaningful content has become a vicious circle. I miss the creativity and productivity that used to define my days. The belief that content creators get compensated indeed fuels my frustration.

Despite leaving my studies behind to chase this dream, I no longer see the gains from my efforts. The lack of followers and the constant comparison with other creators have drained my energy and motivation. The question nags at me—what was the point of devoting so much time to a platform that robs me of my time and energy instead of providing any tangible returns?

A Life Wreathed in Regret

Life has been a series of painful lessons, but I can only recount one large regret due to my current state of tiredness. That regret stems from a single day when I was in elementary school. On that day, I, a 6-year-old child, silently thanked my mother for her daily duties without considering how I could also express my gratitude to my father. In the moment, I only thanked my mother, not giving a second thought to my father's tiredness from his day's work.

This regret, though small, has had profound consequences. My father, who took my silence as indifference, grew distant. Today, he is estranged from me, and I miss the loving, caring father who always tried to be there for me. This regret underscores the importance of empathy and appreciation, not only for our mothers but also for our fathers.

Thanking our parents is crucial, especially when they go unnoticed and undervalued. Even a simple act of expressing gratitude can mend broken bonds and foster a healthier familial relationship.
