Quora Platform Improvements: User Feedback and Suggestions for Future Changes
Has Quora Management Ever Asked You for Feedback on Platform Improvements?
As a regular user of the Quora platform, I have noticed ongoing issues that need to be addressed for a better user experience. The recent email from Quora inviting participation in a research study raised questions about how the platform is evolving and whether user input is genuinely valued.
User Participation in Feedback Surveys
Back in 2019, Quora conducted surveys for top writers, which provided an opportunity for input on platform improvements. However, as someone who has actively participated in these surveys, I can attest to the fact that none of my suggestions were ever acted upon. The lack of follow-up and action makes it feel like our feedback is not being taken seriously.
User Experience and Community Management
One of the primary issues is the lack of appropriate community management. I would strongly recommend that Quora appoint at least two employees as community managers/moderators, much like Tatiana Estévez and Marc Bodnick. These individuals should enforce platform policies strictly and clearly communicate that rudeness and disrespect towards other users are not acceptable. This is a crucial step to maintain a positive and respectful community.
The Rise of Poe and Quora's Focus on Profit
Quora's recent success with its new product, Poe, has been noteworthy. However, instead of reinvesting in the original platform, the company seems to be focusing on Poe's profitability. While it is understandable to drive revenue, it's essential to ensure that the original platform remains a vibrant and engaging space for its users.
Addressing the Lack of Moderation
One of the most significant challenges on Quora is the lack of adequate moderation. Users like myself have witnessed instances where platform policy violators are not swiftly penalized. This issue goes beyond a few isolated cases and extends to a broader loss of trust among the community. To address this, I would suggest reinstating a human moderation team. This would not only improve the user experience but also boost user traffic as many users are currently abandoning the platform due to a lack of moderation.
The Future of Quora
Given Quora's current trajectory, it seems that the company is more focused on profitability rather than user experience. While this strategy may yield short-term gains, it could lead to long-term losses in user engagement and community trust. If given an opportunity to express my thoughts openly, I would advocate for a more engaged approach to user feedback and a focus on humanization of the platform.
Closing Thoughts
The feedback from users is invaluable in shaping a platform that meets the needs of everyone involved. While it's understandable that every company has to prioritize profit, it is crucial to strike a balance that benefits both the users and the business. With the right leadership and a more responsive approach to user feedback, Quora can become a more vibrant and engaging place for intellectual discourse.
