Navigating SSC CGL 2020 Tier 2: Lessons in Perseverance and Success

Every journey through the Subordinate Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exam has its unique challenges and rewards. As a three-time participant, my experience with the SSC CGL 2020 Tier 2 provides valuable insights and encouragement for aspiring candidates. This article will delve into the process, key lessons learned, and the ongoing journey to success.

My Journey with SSC CGL

I have given three attempts for the SSC CGL exam, each with its own highlights and challenges. In 2017, I secured 164 marks in maths and 157 in Tier 2, while in 2018, my scores improved to 160 in maths and 160 in Tier 2. In 2019, I achieved 233.5 normalised in maths and 190 in Tier 2. These scores reflect both my strengths and the obstacles I have faced.

The SSC CGL 2017 boosted my confidence and taught me valuable lessons, despite the competitive nature of the exam. I did not secure a job, but the experience helped me understand how to handle failure and prepare for future efforts. The 2018 attempt led to an exciting career as a Junior Accountant in the Ministry of Communications, and now, I work as an Inspector in Income Tax. This journey underlines the importance of perseverance and hard work.

SSC CGL 2020: My Second Attempt

This year, my fourth attempt as a working individual, the scenario was different. I scored 494.7 out of 600, which is an average score. Given that I am a UR (Unreserved Category) candidate, this score is not sufficient to secure a 4600 grade pay. The binding together of CGL 2020 and the CGL 19 court case created a challenging backdrop for my preparation.

To be frank, my performance did not meet my expectations. After the exam, I temporarily gave up on studies due to health issues and the stress of the court cases. It wasn't until December that I resumed my main exam preparation. Despite these setbacks, I gave my best shot during the Tier 2 exam and aimed for a 2800 grade pay job, provided I performed well in Tier 3.

The key message is simple: never give up, no matter how the preliminary results turn out. There is still 500 marks left to be gained in Tier 3. If you manage to score 360 in the mains, you will be in the position to secure a decent job, even in the most competitive regions. Good luck to all appearing for the SSC CGL 2021 mains. This journey is ongoing, and with the right mindset, it can lead to great success.

First Attempt Experience

A close friend of mine is sharing his experience for the first attempt at the SSC CGL. He is still waiting for Tier 3 results with crossed fingers. His score until Tier 2 was:

- 488.xx/600

This score, while commendable, is still pending the Tier 3 results. His efforts have paid off, but the wait is nerve-wracking. He has received a 1.25 marks bonus in English and 5 marks in General Studies. The marks for Paper 3 and Paper 4 were based on common sense, bringing his total score to 514.xx (excluding Paper 3 and 4).

This example highlights the resilience and determination needed to pursue government jobs through the SSC CGL process. Whether it's my own experience or others, the journey is about continuous improvement and perseverance.
