Is It Normal to Feel Unaccomplished at 27? Redefining Success and Purpose
Have you ever asked yourself the same question, 'Is it normal to feel like I have not done anything important with my life and that I’m running out of time?' If so, you are not alone. Many people at 27 or even beyond share the same concern. But the good news is, it's a very normal and common feeling that can be addressed and transformed into a positive outlook on life.
Understanding Your Unique Journey
Let's start by acknowledging that everyone's journey is unique. There is no one-size-fits-all definition of success. Just like the advice someone once gave me, you must remember that it is never too late to start pursuing your goals and trying new things. Success can be defined in different ways for different people. For some, it might be earning a high salary or being famous, while for others, it might be starting a business or contributing to society through their work.
Focusing on Personal Growth
It is crucial to focus on your own growth and progress rather than comparing yourself to others. As I said, an old man once told me, 'It is never too late to achieve greatness in your own way.' This means that whether you are younger or older, you can still make a difference in your life and in the lives of others. Setting realistic goals and working towards them can bring a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment.
Simple Great Things in Life
Perhaps instead of focusing on grand achievements, consider the smaller, everyday accomplishments that you have already achieved in your life. Here are a few examples:
If you are working, have you already given what you earn to your parents? Have you finished your college or university studies, and hung your graduation photo on the wall with both you and your parents smiling happily together? Have you successfully made a stranger woman get curious to know you more and smile? If you have done these or something similar, you have already done some great things in your life. Why worry about the past and the uncertainty that the future holds? Just remain yourself in the present and continue trying to be better than you were yesterday. This can still be considered as another successful step to take in your life journey.
Faith and Self-Belief
Believe in yourself. Have faith that you can achieve what you set your mind to. As I mentioned, if you are finally able to think like this every day for the next 10 years, you will fully understand that it is normal to have these feelings. However, if you continue to think and act the same way, you will likely live your life doubting yourself and continue asking the same question over and over again.
Defining Purpose and Helping Others
Lastly, remember that defining and finding your purpose is a journey in itself. Often, your true purpose in life can be realized by helping others. Serving and assisting the community can provide a sense of fulfillment and contribute to a greater good. Engage in activities or initiatives that align with your values and interests, and you may find that your purpose lies in making a positive impact on others' lives.
Remember, whenever you feel stuck or unsure about your path, take a moment to reflect on the small victories you've already achieved, believe in your ability to continue growing, and consider how you can contribute to something greater than yourself. Embrace the journey, and embrace the potential for a fulfilling life.
