Is It Fine to Quit Cognizant During the Training Period to Join Another Company?
Many individuals face the dilemma of whether it is acceptable to leave Cognizant during the training period to join another company. The answer is a resounding 'yes,' but certain considerations must be taken into account.
General Compliance with Cognizant Policies
It is completely fine to proceed and submit your resignation, provided that you fulfill all relevant procedures. If you have cleared your financial dues with Cognizant, there are no further obligations. You will receive payment for the days you worked, and these payments are prepared and distributed by the end of the month.
Notice Period and Payment
You can resign at any time and serve your notice period, including during the training period or after being assigned to a project. This allows you to receive payment for the time you have worked, even if your training or project assignment spans the month.
You will receive your salary in full up until the last business day of the month in which your employment ends. This policy is one of the advantages of working at Cognizant, as it ensures that you are fully compensated for your work.
Ways to Resign in Mid-Training
If you need to resign during the middle of the training period, you can employ a few strategies:
Flunking Assessments
A straightforward method is to fail your assessments multiple times, which might trigger the policy that leads to your release. However, this process can be time-consuming and may also negatively impact your training progress.
Explain to Your Immediate Supervisor (Batch Owner)
Another method involves explaining your reasons to your Batch Owner and serving a notice period, which can range from 1 day to 2 months. If your reasons are genuine and well-founded, your employer may be flexible and reduce the notice period as much as possible. This approach is often neater and cleaner on your employment record.
Stop Going to Work Suddenly
A bold but risky strategy is to stop going to work the very next day. While this can be effective, it will be recorded and may not be the best option if you want to maintain a smooth transition.
Post-Resignation Considerations
After resigning from Cognizant, you must be aware that you cannot reapply to the company within 6 months unless you meet certain critical requirements or have a specialized skill set that aligns with the company's needs.
In summary, you can resign at any point during your training period, and Cognizant will provide the necessary support and payment. The key is to handle the process professionally and inform your immediate supervisor as needed.
