How to Install Manjaro and Run Steam Smoothly

Wondering how to install Manjaro and run Steam on your system? This comprehensive guide will walk you through the process step-by-step, ensuring you can enjoy gaming on Linux with ease.

1. Download Manjaro ISO

To begin, visit the Manjaro website and choose the edition that suits your preference - XFCE, KDE, or GNOME. Once you have selected your edition, download the ISO file. This step is crucial as it provides the installation media for Manjaro.

2. Create a Bootable USB Drive

Next, you will need to create a bootable USB drive. Popular tools for this include Rufus on Windows, Etcher, a cross-platform application, or the dd command for Linux. Insert a USB drive with at least 4 GB of space and select the Manjaro ISO file you just downloaded.

3. Boot from USB and Install Manjaro

After preparing your USB drive, restart your computer and access the BIOS/UEFI settings, usually by pressing keys like F2, F10, DEL, or ESC during startup. Change the boot order to prioritize booting from the USB drive. Save your changes and exit the BIOS/UEFI settings.

Once the live environment has loaded, you can either try out Manjaro or proceed with the installation. Click on the ‘Install Manjaro’ icon on the desktop. Follow the installation wizard:

Choose your language. Select your region and keyboard layout. Choose the installation type, such as erasing the disk and installing Manjaro or installing alongside another OS. Set up your user account and password. Review your settings and click ‘Install’.

4. Complete the Installation

After installation, you will be prompted to restart your computer. When prompted, remove the USB drive.

5. Install Steam

Once your system boots into Manjaro, open the terminal or use the application launcher. Update your system using the command:

nbash sudo pacman -Syu

Now, install Steam using the package manager:

nbash sudo pacman -S steam

After installation, you can find Steam in your application menu. Launch it and log in to your account.

6. Install Games

You can now browse your library, install games, and enjoy gaming on Manjaro!

Additional Notes

Make sure to check for any additional drivers you might need for your graphics card (NVIDIA, AMD, etc.) using the Manjaro Drivers repository.

If you encounter issues with games, consider checking the Arch Wiki for compatibility and troubleshooting tips, as Manjaro is based on Arch Linux.
