Is Hillary Clinton Running in 2024?

Given the circumstances of the 2016 election, it is highly unlikely that Hillary Clinton would be a viable contender for the Democratic nomination in 2024. Her primary argument as the most electable candidate would be severely weakened by her loss to Donald Trump, making it a less than plausible path to the presidency.

Additionally, the nomination in 2028 is out of the question, as she would be in her 80s by then. The near-certainty of Joe Biden winning the nomination in 2024 is supported by the fact that he is expected to face minimal opposition during the re-nomination process.

Clues and Indicators

The latest candidate declarations suggest that right now, Hillary Clinton’s name is not on the list. The pack of early entrants have already started and a few latecomers have joined in, mainly due to their financial prowess and desire to avoid the tedious and time-consuming campaigning process. Her lack of participation in these early stages contradicts the notion that she might run.

Despite some discourse around why she shouldn't run, and harsh comments regarding her name, there are two primary reasons that she likely will not run:

She is enjoying the quiet and private life out of the public spotlight. Her name and the reactions it elicits have shown to be detrimental to her political profile. Running for president tends to alienate a significant portion of the electorate.

However, considering her future role as a cabinet member under a Democratic president, she might play a crucial behind-the-scenes role in shaping policy and guiding the party. Yet, her immediate political ambitions for the presidency are almost certainly over.

The Impact of Russian Interference

The Russian interference in the 2016 election has led to an increased awareness of cyber threats. The recent hacking attempts on Ukraine and the release of fake emails about Hunter Biden further underscore the need to stay vigilant against foreign interference. The fact that these attempts were not even disguised shows how serious the threat is.

While it might seem like deja vu, it is important to note that this time the hope is that people will be aware of the threats and not be swayed by misinformation. The ongoing efforts to combat Russian influence highlight the need for a robust and transparent electoral system.

The Current Democratic Landscape

With the possibility of either Joe Biden or Pete Buttigieg securing the nomination, there is a strong argument for Hillary Clinton to stay out of the race. Bernie Sanders has consistently been a strong contender and his performance in the early debates has solidified his position. Amy Klobuchar seems to be making inroads and effectively stealing votes away from both Biden and Buttigieg.

In the short term, it would be more productive for Clinton to stay out of the race and let someone with a higher likelihood of success in the general election step forward. This would give Sanders a better chance and provide a unified front for the Democratic party. Besides, it ensures that resources are best allocated to campaigns with the greatest chance of success.
