God's Perspective on Good Political Leaders in the Pursuit of World Peace

Even a good political leader can never bring lasting peace to the world. The first rule established in the Garden of Eden by God teaches us that humans were never meant to rule themselves. This is reaffirmed in the Bible, where Jesus instructs us to focus on serving God’s kingdom, not on worldly kingdoms.

Why World Peace Remains Elusive

The Bible suggests that human efforts to achieve world peace are doomed to fail due to a number of reasons. Among them, Jeremiah 10:23 states, "It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step." This verse implies that humans are incapable of directing their own path, let alone bringing lasting peace to the world.

Reliance on Human Leaders

According to Psalm 146:3-4, "Do not put your trust in princes, in mortals, in whom there is no salvation. When they breathe their last, they return to the earth; on that very day their plans perish." This passage emphasizes that even the most virtuous and well-intentioned politicians will ultimately fail to achieve lasting peace, as their efforts are limited to mortal ends.

Understanding the Climate for Peace in the Last Days

We live in the “last days,” a time when the Bible describes attitudes that make peace difficult to achieve. 2 Timothy 3:1-4 notes, "In the last days, critical times hard to deal with will be here. For men will be . . .* arrogant, self obsessed, impatient and proud of heart.*" This reflects the challenging socio-political climate that becomes increasingly hostile to peace.

The Role of the Devil

The Bible also recognizes the influence of evil, particularly through the agency of the Devil. Revelation 12:12 states, "Woe to the earth and the seagoing ships, because the devil is coming down with great wrath, because he knows he has only a short time." This passage describes the Devil as a powerful force that drives people to adopt a sinister and violent spirit, making it nearly impossible to achieve peace. According to John 12:31, as long as the Devil continues to rule this world, peace remains elusive.

God’s Kingdom as the True Source of Peace

Daniel 2:44 offers a ray of hope, stating, "[God’s Kingdom] will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms [that oppose God] and it itself will stand for ever." This prophecy highlights that God’s kingdom, not human governments, is the ultimate source of permanent and genuine peace. Psalm 145:16 reinforces this idea, emphasizing that God’s kingdom will satisfy the human desire for eternal peace.

In conclusion, the pursuit of world peace requires a divine approach, not a human one. While good political leaders can inspire hope and work towards peace, ultimate peace can only come through the fulfillment of God’s kingdom on Earth. As believers in Christ, we are called to focus on prayer, confidence in God’s plan, and serving His kingdom to bring about the true peace we all seek.
