After a decade of collecting watches, I came to the conclusion that my favorite watch brands are a culmination of my experiences and knowledge. Far from being the ones I first came to like, I have found myself deeply immersed in Seiko and Casio.
Seiko
Far from initially collecting only for "Swiss Made" watches, I have now found that Seiko watches offer excellent value for money. From their entry-level watches to their top-tier Grand Seiko models, Seiko stands out. Despite the recent rise in prices, Seiko continues to be the best value for money proportional watches available.
Even the entry-level Seiko watches are made with good finishing, though not perfect. And the inclusion of in-house movements is impressive. The Grand Seiko, in particular, is a league of its own. Once you delve deep into watches, you can truly appreciate its quality and value. However, it's normal to question the value of a high-end Seiko. But once you know, you'll understand why it's worth it.
Casio
Casio watches, specifically the G-shock models, have become a significant part of my collection. Though I don't usually collect quartz watches, the benefits of solar watches have convinced me. I find that solar watches need to be exposed to light, making them ideal for daily wear. Mechanical watches, while beautiful, require more maintenance.
The GMW-B5000
The GMW-B5000 is the G-shock model that I cherish the most. It's a full-metal square watch, and while it might not be the most expensive watch I own, it's the one I would take if the world were to end. Its reliability and design make it a standout among my collection.
Seiko watches have permeated my collection, making it difficult to choose a favorite. But the GMW-B5000 is the one I’d pick in a dire situation. It's a testament to the quality and reliability of both brands.
