How to Autofill Geotagged Photos on Flickr and Yahoo Maps

Geotagging Flickr photos and Yahoo Maps is a seamless process, as easy as a drag and drop. Follow these detailed steps to ensure your photos are automatically displayed on the map in Yahoo Maps with precision and ease.

Access Your Flickr Account and Navigate to the Organizr Tab

To begin, log into your Flickr account and click on the Organize > Create > Organizr tab for your photostream. This tab allows you to manage and geotag your photos efficiently.

Geotag a Batch or Individual Photos: You can geotag photos in batches or do it one by one. To geotag a batch, start by selecting the thumbnails you wish to geotag from the Finder section. Access the Map Interface: Once you are in the Organizr tab, click on the Map tab to bring up the Yahoo Map interface. This tool includes navigational features such as a slider, direction button, and three different map views. Use your mouse to scroll around the map for a panoramic view. Zoom and Center the Map: Double-click on the location to zoom in and center the map at your desired spot. Start Geotagging: Begin the geotagging process by typing in the location in the Find a Location search box. Enter the place where the photo was taken. For more precise results, you can use the exact address. Not all locations, especially those outside the U.S. and Europe, may offer as specific results.

Geotagging Process and Removing Location Data

Once your location is set, the process of geotagging a photo or multiple photos is straightforward. Select the thumbnails from the Finder section and drag them to the appropriate spot on the map. If you wish to remove the location data, simply drag the photos back to the thumbnail strip to de-tag them.

Clicking on a photo brings up the Edit dialog, where you can add more information. Here you will see that the longitude and latitude coordinates have been added to the photos. The permissions regarding who can view the location data can be set from this dialog. Additionally, you can decide on the Permissions page whether to keep the geotagged photo private or share it with the public, including Creative Commons attribution.

Viewing Geotagged Information in Your Photostream

Depending on the permissions you have set, the geotagged information will be visible alongside your pictures in your photostream. Clicking on the linked place names provides a location perspective on a map, making it an effortless and intuitive experience.

Tips for Geotagging Efficiency

If you prefer a more advanced approach, you can use the Flickr API to code your own solution. Alternatively, for those using a desktop application, you can geo-code photos before uploading them. While these applications do not automatically geo-code photos for you, they do make the process more efficient and provide additional features.

By following these steps and utilizing the available tools, you can ensure that your photos are accurately geotagged and automatically displayed on Yahoo Maps, enhancing the visual storytelling and exploration aspect of your photo collection.
