Can I Add TSA PreCheck to an Existing Reservation in Spirit Airlines?

The stress of traveling can significantly be reduced if you have TSA PreCheck. This post will guide you on how to add TSA PreCheck to your existing Spirit Airlines reservation.

Adding TSA PreCheck Ticket Information

If you missed adding your PreCheck details during your initial booking, you can still append this information later. Here’s how you can do it:

Log into your reservation: Visit the Spirit Airlines website and use your username and password to log in to your account. Navigate to the flight details: Once logged in, locate the option to manage your flights and enter your flight information. Add TSA PreCheck details: Enter your TSA PreCheck number and proceed with the updates.

If you’re not sure about adding it directly, you can add it to your profile in the airline’s loyalty program. If you don’t already have an account, join and add your TSA PreCheck number. Then, go to the airport check-in counter and ask the representative to add this detail to your ticket.

Adding TSA PreCheck at the Airport

In case you missed adding your TSA PreCheck number before departure, there are several options to still get this benefit:

Automated Kiosk: Use the automated machine at the airport to add your PreCheck number. Ensure that you have your number ready and correctly formatted. Ticket Counter: If the automated kiosk is not available, go to the ticket counter and provide your name and PreCheck number. While the representative can probably find it with your name, you should ensure your details are correct to avoid any delays.

Another option is to call Spirit Airlines and ask to add your PreCheck number to your reservation. If you can find an online portal, be sure to add it before getting your boarding pass.

Before obtaining TSA PreCheck, I largely abstained from the routine X-ray type machine. For several years, I faced extensive searches and pat-downs. One instance, my experience even bordered on the uncomfortable as the security personnel seemed particularly enthusiastic. Further, my status as a "Mr. Suspect" for one-way flights made me a frequent target. No fun at all!

Applying for TSA PreCheck if Not Already in the Program

While the above methods work if you already have TSA PreCheck, what if you aren’t a member? Here’s how to apply and enroll:

Apply Online: You can start the application process online at the TSA PreCheck website. However, once the application is complete, you’ll need to visit a pre-approved transportation security screening center. This is usually found at many airport locations and involves a personal interview, including fingerprinting.

Wait Time: After completing the application process and attending the interview, the approval process can take around 10 business days. Once approved, you will receive a TSA PreCheck number, which you can provide to your airline prior to your flight.

Additional Note: It’s worth noting that having a TSA PreCheck number does not guarantee you access to the TSA PreCheck line. Occasionally, passengers may be selected for additional screening. In my experience, this happened only about 1% of the time during business travels over the past few years.
